Outreach Project Grant Applications
About the Outreach Project Grants
The BIPS Outreach Project Grant supports outreach projects that promote the knowledge of the Persianate world among a non-academic audience. Projects can range from exhibitions to workshops, lecture series and events for the general public, must have a clear outreach goal and be geared towards audiences which do not normally have access to scholarship on the Persianate world.
BIPS usually invites applications for this scheme once a year.
Awards are limited to £2,000.
In the financial year 2024-25, the grant call will open on 4 December 2024.
Deadline for submission is Friday 31 January 2025.
Eligibility
Applicants must be affiliated to (not necessarily employed by) a UK-based university, institute of higher education, a UK museum or a registered charity. All applications must be accompanied with a safeguarding risk assessment and must be compliant with the ethical policies of the affiliated and host institution.
BIPS will not fund travel to any country where the FCDO does not advise travel.
Supporting Documents
All applicants are requested to submit the following documents:
- BIPS application form;
- 2-page CV;
- Safeguarding risk assessment;
- A letter of support from the affiliated institution stating the availability of the institution to receive and manage the grant and that the project complies with the ethical policies of the institution;
- Two letters of reference from individuals familiar with the applicant’s previous experience in running projects similar to the one for which a grant is requested. Referees should not be involved in the outreach project for which funds are sought.
Process and Reporting
All grant applications are considered by the Outreach Committee. The Outreach Committee’s recommendations are reviewed and ratified by the BIPS Council. This process can take up to a month after each application deadline.
All applications must include detailed estimated costs and realistic budgets. All funds are paid directly to the grantee’s affiliated institution.
Award-holders must provide a report of the project and full statement of the ways in which the money provided has been spent with corresponding receipts and invoices for all expenditure. Any money which remains unspent must be refunded to BIPS.
Recipients of grants might be invited to give a short presentation at a BIPS Webinar. Failure to report on their work will prevent the recipient of the award from applying for another BIPS Outreach Project Grant.
Due acknowledgement of support received from BIPS must be made in any publicity material, either printed or digital. The grantee should seek BIPS approval on any publicity material. BIPS request that a copy of any publication resulting from the grant is submitted to Institute. Digital copies are preferred.
